The razorback

The razorback

The University of Arkansas yearbook was first published in 1897 under the name The Cardinal, honoring the school’s original colors. When the university adopted the Razorback as its mascot, the yearbook’s name followed suit — and The Razorback was born. Over the decades, the book has grown more colorful, expansive, and creative, while remaining true to its purpose: to document student life and preserve the legacy of the University of Arkansas. Today, The Razorback Yearbook continues as a fully student-produced publication — a living record of the people, pride, and traditions that make the Hill home.

I joined The Razorback yearbook because I wanted a way to be creative in college. I loved doing yearbook in high school, and I knew it was something I wanted to continue in college. My favorite part of working on The Razorback is getting to put together all the photos, stories, and design to capture what it is like to be a student at the University of Arkansas!

My name is Isabel Salazar and I am majoring in multimedia production and storytelling. As soon as I joined my high school yearbook, I knew that I loved documenting the lives of students on campus, especially through photo journalism! So, when I saw the opportunity to apply for photo editor, I just had to apply. Other than The Razorback, I am a peer mentor for the 360 program for first generation students. Woo Pig!

Minor: History

My favorite part is interviewing the sources of the stories! I learn about the stories that expand my perspective and connect with the people. Once I interview someone, I have a connection, and it’s amazing to see how connected everyone is or can be! What do I do outside of the Razorback Yearbook? If I’m not working as a peer mentor for the 360 Program and the Fulbright College Honors Peer Mentor Program, you can find me practicing my piano repertoire in the music building. The 360 Advising Studio in the CORD is also my campus home because I’m there every day.
