August 17th marked the beginning of new lifelong friendships and experiences as the Chi Omega Greek Theater was filled with sorority recruits. Screams of excitement rippled through the air as the girls ripped open their bid envelopes to see which sorority they would now call home. For freshman Grace Replogle, one of the newest members of Delta Gamma, the arrival of bid day came with a mix of anxiety and excitement. “I knew what chapter I found my home in and I was nervous that I would not see their name on the card. I was reassured by everyone around me that
everything happens for a reason, and it did!” The process leading up to this day is challenging, as the girls must tour, interview, and select their favorite houses as Rush Week progresses. In the past 20 years, the number of Greek Life members has more than tripled in correlation to the
ever-increasing student body population here at the University of Arkansas. As a result, the recruitment process has begun to be increasingly more competitive as the years have progressed. With nearly 30% of the student body participating in Greek life, membership at one of the
Panhellenic chapters offer its members the unique opportunity to connect with each other. This year, the sorority recruitment process looked slightly different from previous years, as a new sorority chapter was added to the university’s roster. Their fellow Panhellenic chapters warmly welcomed Alpha Phi as they showed up to support them on their bid day on September 8th. For freshman Clara Lawson, the chance to join a new sorority was too good to pass up. She shared, “I didn’t initially want to join a sorority, but after trying out the recruitment process and meeting
some of the girls, I saw how Alpha Phi has fostered a community for others and how I could be a part of that too!” The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a founding member of a new sorority and the chance to work towards strengthening its foundation resulted in the addition of many
new members, making Alpha Phi’s recruitment a success.
